What Bread Crumbs may process
During an active safety session, Bread Crumbs may process location breadcrumbs, timestamps, device battery state, connectivity state, the selected activity and expected end, session status, and incident state when you use the app’s incident controls.
When location is collected
Bread Crumbs is designed to collect location information for an active safety session and its related background operation. Location access lets the app keep a last-reported trail while the phone is locked or you are using another app. Ending the session stops new tracking.
People you share with
Bread Crumbs does not request access to or upload your Contacts database. You choose how and with whom to share a private guardian link using the iOS share sheet. Guardians do not need a Bread Crumbs account to view it.
Guardian links after a trip ends
A guardian link is a private, unguessable capability URL. Ending stops new tracking, but an already-shared link may temporarily show a frozen final trip summary until it expires or is explicitly revoked. Anyone you share a link with may be able to view the information available through it, so share it only with people you trust.
Local trip history
Complete route history is kept locally on the iPhone for the newest 10 completed trips, plus any sessions that are still tracking. This dedicated local route history is not independently uploaded or synced to CloudKit.
Beta diagnostics
During the beta, Bread Crumbs records a bounded technical report for each session on the iPhone. It can include precise location evidence needed to investigate tracking problems. Reports remain on-device by default, are excluded from backup, are not automatically sent to the developer, and are not automatically synced to CloudKit. A report leaves the app only after you choose Share Trip Diagnostics, confirm the precise-location warning, and select a destination. Bread Crumbs keeps at most 10 diagnostic sessions and removes reports after 14 days.
Encryption and service providers
Sensitive guardian telemetry is encrypted before it is stored in Apple CloudKit. The guardian web experience is hosted on Vercel and validates the private link before retrieving and decrypting the session information needed to render the read-only view. Apple, Vercel, and your device may process information under their own applicable policies and platform terms.
Guardian-service retention
Bread Crumbs is designed around temporary sessions and expiring private links. A link’s availability and cleanup can vary with session status and connectivity, but explicit revocation and expiration make it inaccessible.
Advertising and sale of data
The current Bread Crumbs beta does not include advertising, advertising tracking, or a data-selling feature. This statement describes the current product architecture and is not a substitute for the privacy practices of Apple, Vercel, your wireless carrier, or other services you choose to use.
Your choices
You control when to begin and end a safety session, whether to share a guardian link, and which permissions to grant. You can change Bread Crumbs permissions in iOS Settings. Turning off connectivity may delay updates; force-quitting the app affects iOS background behavior until the app is reopened.
